According to criminal statistics, about 5%-9% of incidences of domestic violence are exerted by women. The victims can be either men or – in same-sex partnerships – women. Even though there might be only a small number of female perpetrators they need as much support as their male counterparts to end violence. Most of them have been in more than one abusive/violent relationship so there may be more than one victim on each perpetrator.

Working with female/lesbian perpetrators should be part of intervention networks and contribute to the protection of the victim. Aim of each approach is to stop violence immediately and sustainable. Thus, working with lesbian/female perpetrators should be part of intervention and tertiary (long term) prevention.
